Do we have the power to overcome harmful desires?

In the Bible in Genesis, once God banishes Adam and Eve have from Eden. God tells Cain what is true of human nature.

God says. “If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it.”

God is challenging Cain about the desires of his heart and how sin can lead him to his destruction that is why the desire of sin was contrary to him.

This got me thinking about the human condition. When we look at the state of the world, the pain and suffering that humankind causes to humankind. It seems we all have sin crouching at our door ready to attack us, and we need to master it in order to live good lives.

Having power over our sinful desires is a power unlike any other. If we can truly master our weaknesses, can you imagine the success that we would get in life?

Think about it, silly example, you are someone with a voracious appetite, and you know it is wrong to do this because it is detrimental to your body and your health. If you could master that desire that is contrary to your health and your very existence, would mean that you can be healthier have more energy, do more each day, work faster and play more with your children…
